...Because It's Worth It...

My friend and fellow photographer, Jeanine, invited me to fly a kite this Sunday afternoon. Little did I know it was going to be such a challenging event. Flying a kite is not an easy task. One must be able to adapt to the wind's direction because it changes constantly. It took many failed attempts until the kite finally was in the air. We were running in circles, hiking up and down hills, and waiting eagerly for the perfect wind. It was a rather pleasing feeling when kite finally steadily soared in the clear Tennessee sky. Watching the sunlight shine against the kite's colors made all the failed attempts worth it.

The weather was rather chilly. It was a windy day. The best way to stay warm for the ever-changing kite sailing weather is to dress in layers. I'm wearing a black-knitted sweater and scarf. Both these items compliment the black jacket. Together all three elements help the jacket look like a finished piece rather than three separate mixed-matched pieces. The pants are a fancy addition to this rather basic outfit. They craftily lead to the black ankle boots that tie the outfit together.

All together it was a success.

Fly a kite when you have free time, and do not let the failed attempts get you down. Stay above them because it's worth it.

True Red

RED

The color red is a power color. It is one of the three primary colors that make up all other hues. The color Red is universally known as the "warning color" and cannot be ignored. Red is an intense color that breaks through the mundane and neutral colors of an outfit.  Today I am using L'OrĂ©al Paris lipstick called "True Red." This luxurious color grabs attention and suggests confidence. Unleash your true red personality with the POWER OF RED :)

Grrrr-factor

(dress: Xhilaration, tights: gift from a friend, cami: Forever21, belt: thrift shop, heels: Brooklin's Closet, hairband: Urban Outfitters, nail polish: Bobbing for Bauble)

I love mixing and matching different types of fabrics that add texture and contrast to my outfits. This black lacy dress is underlined with a hot pink cami that makes this outfit pop and is a pleasant surprise that showcases the dress. By continuing to highlighted pink accents throughtout this outfit in the tights and shoes, this look my be a little "loud", but its all in good "Funky Patterns."

Along with the clothing, the hair-do can add or take away from an outfit. This hairstyle was inspired by Amy Winehouse (R.I.P) and is clipped back in high bunt with the aid of my Urban Outfitters studded haridband! This do adds sassiness and poise to my look.

For AN ultimate: Grrrrr-factor :)

Lost In Translations

From the people, food, and most especially the rhythmic patterns and colors of
their clothing, Africa has always fascinated me. This outfit was inspired by my roommates. Both of them are from different parts of Africa.

One is from Liberia and the other from Ethiopia. They helped me piece together this outfit as a way of expressing that inner flame of courage and compassion most Africans
I know have. I have learned a lot from these two remarkable young ladies over the last year.
It takes courage to step outside of one's own culture and embrace a new one. Both have migrated from a different continent and are pursuing their nursing degrees. They have showed me compassion by
teaching me things about their cultures and allowing me to get to know them.

By wearing this outfit, poka-dots and all, I'm embracing this collaborative idea of learning from the people around me, and understanding them a little more than I would have before.

It is with open hands that people share and receive relationships and good tides, but we have to stand
tall and strong at other times to strengthen the bonds between us. With our feet positioned
and ready for whatever is next on our journey to understanding
other people and their differences that make them beautiful.

thank you ladies :)

"The Portrait of a Lady"

(dress: Salvation Army, earrings: Brazil, watch: Swatch, ring: Promise, clutch: Toleshi, stocking: Camden Market, London, nail polish: little brown dress )

Sometimes I think life was simpler during the 1940s. Things were classier then. Women would emphasize their "hourglass"figures with grace and poise. This look is perfect for any Sunday Church look.

???QUESTIONS???

(made in PhotoShop CS5)

"I MUST-ASK U A QUESTION, BUT I'LL SHAVE IT FOR LATER"

I have always been a fan of questions. I believe there is no such thing as a dumb question (though, I have proven that quote wrong several times) There are sooo many questions out there just waiting to be asked and answered.

I've always thought questions were a reflection of a community; I still do. When someone asks a question, the goal is to get something that was missed; whether for further clarification, explanation, and discussion.

So don't be afraid to ask a question, rather than saving it for later.

Sometimes the "later" doesn't come and you're stuck with shifty eyes and a healthy mustache disguise.
